Our recently completed annual golf tournament held on August 10, 2013 at the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course (West) was a huge success.  It set an all time record for most players (56) and net proceeds of $5,035.00, also the highest ever made by this event.  This was a result of a true team effort of Council 874 brothers who either donated financially to partially defray cost or put in long hours of work to ensure that the tournament as well as the dinner/reception went without a glitch.  A few did both.  We received financial donations from long time supporters and several new donors this year.  They are:

                 Al Floresca                                        Pat Ong

                Joe Lapid                                            Rex Edora

                John Cummings                                Manuel Guinto

                Frank Palmaymesa                           Abuda Grande Associates

                Ryan Kolda                                         Hermie Cordero

The food committee, headed by Bro Rolly Manansala, deserves a much-earned kudos for the excellent post tournament dinner reception at Christopher Hall.  This group, which also includes Alex Agan, Alex Lacanilao, Marc Canaya, Sonny Santos, Richard Angeles, Mendy Miraflor, Douglas De Los Santos, Boy Soriano, Billy Lintag, Fred Santos and Joe Elumba, provided the funds for the food and drinks and cooked and served the dishes.  Several brothers, including Jhun Antonio, Anthony ‘Rocky’ Mills, Ed Dayrit, Rex Edora and Tony McGrath did a great job in helping with setting up the reception area and the barbeque.  Council ladies who assisted in hosting the dinner and selling raffle tickets were Norilyn Santos, Tonniett David, Lydia Palmaymesa and Elsa Ragonton.  Thank you ladies!  The on course registration and scoring crew included Joe Elumba,  Jun Diaz, Ed Lim, Hector Poblete, Dan Macariola (also the official photographer), and GK Sonny Santos.  Bro Alfred Polintan also showed up at the course with much need cases of drinking water. Good job brothers!

Then there were the tournament winners.  Closest to the pin awardees were Sonny Javier (#3), Lorayna Santos (#7), Freddie Sebastian (#11), and Rey Vito (#15).  The Longest Drive trophy went to Lance Stewart.  Ted Garfield won the Low Gross Score honor with a 77.  Flight A winner was Romy Moscardon and Rey Vito took the Flight B top honor .  Flight runners up were Franco Ibo and Rico Garcia respectively.

The real winners, however, are those who are in most need of our donations, may they be in Vallejo, or anywhere else in the country or the world.  They are the ones that truly matter in all of our charitable endeavors.

Council 874 Sponsors Breakfast for Dawn Mass Churchgoers

Dawn mass is traditionally celebrated at St Vincent Ferrer Parish church starting from the 16th of December up to the 24th. Because the mass starts at 5:30 am, this tradition requires one to wake up early and endure the cold December mornings. But still, the dawn masses are well attended and attendance gets even larger during weekends. After each mass, churchgoers congregate at the Memorial Hall across the street from the church where breakfast is served, various ministries from the parish take turns serving breakfast to the parishioners. Council 874 served breakfast on Saturday, December 22, it was the weekend before Christmas and attendance was fairly large despite the early morning rain. The Knights of Council 874 with the help of their wives came prepared to serve hot meals to everyone. Several Brother Knights contributed breakfast dishes and helped serve the congregation of around 250 churchgoers.

    Everybody Wins!!! by Alex Ragonton

A beautiful warm sunny summer day and a scenic and challenging golf course in a great city, what else can one ask for? A fun golf outing among friends and brothers, that’s what.  The annual tournament hosted by Vallejo Council 874 was held August 18 at the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course (East).  Proceeds of this fund raising event go towards supporting the various charitable programs and projects of the council.  Thirty-six friends of the knights and members participated and hacked it out for bragging rights and the numerous trophies to be had.  Along with donations from generous benefactors, the tourney netted over $3,200.00.

Alex Mejia won the Low Gross Champion with a 76 as well as the long drive trophy.  Romy Moscardon and George Lintag took home the first and second place trophies for Flight A and Josef Soriano and Jeff Ragonton were the respective winners for Flight B.

The success of the event was made possible by the outstanding support by our tournament committees.  The food committee comprising of Rolly Manansala, Alex Agan, Rolando Santos, Marc Canaya, Alex Lacanilao, Joe Elumba, Boy Soriano and Billy Lintag deserves a very special recognition for their behind-the scenes hard work in making sure that a great spread of food was rewarded to the players, and their financial contribution for the cost of the food and drinks. Bro Zoilo Lacanilao assisted the crew.  The registration and starter group which included GK Dan Macariola, Ed Lim, Jojo Maristela, Hector Poblete and others ensured that the tournament started without a hitch.  Joe Elumba was the willing and able assistant scorer who made sure all the scores were tallied accurately.  The player recruitment team of Billy Lintag, Mel David, Hermie Sunga, Numer Tamoro and Pablo Tamoro did a yeoman’s job in signing up players.  As in past years, some of our council 874 ladies, which included Norlyn Santos, Teresa Poblete and May Agan were at the dinner and helped prepare the food and host the players.  To all who helped in any way, thank you!
